I am a member of FMCA for basically only one of their benefits. Namely their FMCAssist benefit.
What is FMCAssist?
FMCAssist is emergency medical evacuation and repatriation coverage available to active FMCA members who experience a medical event and are no longer able to continue their travels. FMCA members must be 75 or more miles from home to qualify. Full-time RVers are always considered 75 or more miles from home. FMCAssist services are also available to members when traveling abroad. Some exclusions and limitation amounts pertain to these benefits.
FMCAssist is supposed to provide, among other benefits, the following:
1.Medical Evacuation and Repatriation
2.Return Home
3.Family Travel Expense
4.Return of Mortal Remains
5.Return of Dependent Children
6.Recreational Vehicle/RV Return (limited to trips in North America only)
7.Return of Private Passenger Automobile (limited to trips in North America only)
8.Pet Return
I am concerned about #6, “Recreational Vehicle/RV Return”. Since I am the only driver of our GMC Motorhome, if I am out of commission for some reason, it would be stuck wherever I became incapacitated.
Last year I called FMCA and asked about that benefit pertaining to old motorhomes such as ours. The lady I talked to said that the provider company was by contract obligated to provide the service to all motorhomes belonging to members regardless of age.
However, at the fall 2022 GMCMI convention I was told by someone that tried to use the return benefit and was told by an agent from that service provider that our motorhomes were too old! They were stuck because they were unable to use the “RV Return” service.
Does anyone know of a GMC motorhome owner that has used or tried to use this benefit?

From what understand if it is roadworthy it can be returned but if it is more than about 10 years old you may need to find the person to drive it like a friend or relative . They will pay for this service directly to the driver. My diesel pusher is 22 years old and I would likely need to locate some one also even though it only has 30,000 original miles.

I know this is an old thread, but FMCA has recently added additional benefits to FMCA Assist. It was reported in the August 2023 Family RVing Magazine.
The following is copied from the Magazine:
"Mechanical Failure Added to FMCAssist Benefits:
If members have a mechanical failure, they are entitled to an emergency cash benefit. The daily benefit amount is $250 per day for food and lodging for a maximum of three days per trip. The maximum benefit amount per 12-month period is $1,500."
I hope no FMCA member GMCers ever need to use the Mechanical Failure benefit, but it is available.
We are FMCA members and will continue to be as long as we are RVing.
Russell
PS. I would let Larry drive my GMC home anytime. Thank you for volunteering Larry. Maybe after I retire I can get on the list.
