Well, to add insult to injury, I get a call from Comcast on the way home.
Seems they're getting complaints of spam coming off my network. Sure
enough, the email listserver has been compromised. I'm leaving on a
business trip tomorrow and don't have time to deal with it now. In fact,
I'm not a Linux security expert, so I'm not sure how I'm going to deal
with it when I get back.

I'll be pulling the plug in about 15 minutes and I'll post status updates
at http://gmcnet.org/status.html when I have something to report.

To offset some of the "gloom and doom" from last night's announcement, I am in the process of planning to resurrect the list server. I've found that challenges often look a little smaller when you step back and take another look. I've received an offer of assistance in assessing the damage and we'll get started next week.

The timing is probably a bit of serendipity. With the "three strikes" of yahoo, aol and the server being hacked, this four day business trip is well timed. It's in a nice venue; Sharon's joining me tonight and we'll stay through the weekend. A little "decompression" will do me good; atho' it will mean an extended outage of the list server.

More later,
Patrick

Things always happen when you have something scheduled.

I'm trying to go to Bean Station. I was leaving on Monday. It is now Wednesday and I'm still here because of major interruptions. Intake manifold gasket on my Blazer went, my invalid brother's car quit, this morning my daughter got a quadruple house tax bill due May 9th, Medical Insurance company refused my scripts yesterday.

All of this had popped up since Sunday and I'm cleaning out my PU truck to take it to Bean Station.

So enjoy your trip and forget about problems at home until you return.

Ken, if you don't make Bean Station, let's plan one of our own, somewhere between us. Maybe Evansville.
