We had an intermittent issue with the starter solenoid first in the East Bay Area and then again in Indio, CA. I didn't have any jack stands with me and no inclination to wiggle under there so called a mobile mechanic to come over to install a new solenoid. He instantly knew the coach, said it was one of his favorites, was Johnny on the spot, and came immediately to get us started so we could get parked in the Elks Club lot. He came back today, dove under there to took out the starter, pulled it apart and found loose and burned connections in the solenoid. He cleaned everything up and put it all back together. About an hour total and it seems now to be fine. Anyway, he says he worked for GM in the day, then a GM dealer who carried a lot of these and claims to know them inside and out.

Who knows how much fact vs fiction, but he seemed to know what he was doing and was reasonable with his bill. His name is Stew Murray, 253-507-2895, mechanicallycorrect@hotmail.com. Good resource to file away if you are passing through the Palm Springs area and need help.

We travel through there at times. Good to know there is help along the way if we need it. I Cary a "home rebuilt" spare starter. I was glad to have a spare starter one day down in Selma, Al. That is just a real tight fit. I paid a couple of skinny guys to swap it for us.
