Regardless of lift capacity, I wouldn't do it unless the stern was empty inside and there was no water, sewage, or Onan aboard!

Rob, that is my Coach. I was removing the Fuel tanks and replacing all of the fuel lines, I use the lift whenever I have a need. Sure makes it easy to work on everything under there.

That would be great to have -- but if I was using it, I'd have a couple of
joist jacks, one under each end to prevent rocking about that center lift.
Something like:

Mac,
It appears there are 2 x 4's (?) between the rear pads and the frame.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showfull.php?photo=34177
As far as not doing it from where I sit as long as the lift has the capacity 15K and the load is balanced why not?
BTW the photo makes it look like the back is low, HOWEVER, note that the lift is NOT 90° perpendicular in the photo.
Here's an edited version, sure looks like the coach is level to me!

Richard, I reckon YOU'RE the only guy that KNOWS how steady the GMC was on the lift please comment.

Rob M.

Didn't the pic show that there were LONG flat steel plates that spread the load over six or more feet?

Any load spreading foot would require a 3 inch or better I beam extending to just behind the bogie mount on the frame. I don't see it in the pics. If the lift was able to engage the bogie mounts and the front frame near the suspension mounts, that would be the equivalent of the normal support from the suspension. Anything else on these vehicles results in flexure of the frame and body and resultant creaks and leaks.
If I jack up just the front of mine equally on both sides with 2 jacks at the front frame attachment junction (right behind the front wheels)without jacking up the first crossmember also, the door won't close without binding the latch.

Rob,
This is a Rotary SPO15, 15000# lift. We have had our Coach on that lift at least 10 times. Do use some 2x's to spread the load on the rear frame. Also the lift points used are where the frame rails are doubled. In the latest picture, looking at the slab section that the posts are attached to, (do not have the dimensions in my head, believe more than 4 ft from joint to joint) that footer is 12 inches thick and it runs across the entire slab. The J bolts are attached to nbr 5 rods on the bottom of the footer.
Stability has not been a issue, I have been in and out of the Coach while elevated,( weigh 210+) the door opens and closes normally. There is some flex while elevated but nothing that causes any concern.
I believe Sirum GMC also uses a two post lift at their shop.
Interesting discussion.

Richard, there was a discussion a couple of months back regarding what would be best of a pit or a four post lift, I did mention a 2 post lift and after some discussion I had to go back on it (I am actually still a bit sceptical after taking a close look at my GMC)
And then Rob comes with pictures of yours..
