Really ?

I really do not know what to say, except that Senator McCain did end it pretty well. Very Happy

And we do really have a great deal of respect for your ambassadors, but it would maybe be wise to learn a little bit about the country before you go there, or ?

Uhm.. and we do not have a president but a King and prime minister Rolling Eyes

So if you have 4 minutes to spare take a look at the video in the link below.

Uhm Uhm Norway? isnt that the capital in Sweden?

Is this guy really the new ambassador? He must have some very important relatives.

As one of the comments ( in Norwegian) reads If this is the nominy they chose, what does that say about the others?

Yes respect for senator McCain

Ambassadorships with countries we get along with are given out as gifts to big donors.

Mr. Tsunis apprently wanted it pretty bad as he switched parties after McCain lost (or at least, his money switched parties) he gave $.5 million to Obama.

Well Mr Tsunis made it to the news here and did really piss off the progress party when he did say they are a fringe element that have a microphone and "spue the hateridge".

Not very wise to say that about one of the two party's in the coalision that are the goverment and has the minister in the justice department and the minister of finance, they also control the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Transport and Communications and last the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.

I guess we could have axcepted it if it had some elements of truth in it but he is so far off that you can get.

It has actually gone so far that the Norwegian goverment is considering to send a request to Obama asking for a new US ambassador.

Yes Appie Norway is the capitol of sweeden in the northern part of europe called Denmark Smile

Just another example of rampant incompetence of our current administration.

Apologizing in advance. That makes everything ok, Mac.
But to truly apologize in advance would have meant a new "OT" subject
line, no?

Yes, ambassadorships go to high donors or political candidates that lost elections. If you run for senator and loose, you can be appointed as the ambassador to New Zealand for example. I have no idea who the current ambassador to New Zealand is.

Your problem with sending him back now is you will just get another one just like him and he may be more incompetent than the one you first got.

I would send him a history book for your country (written in English) or a link to the CIA factbook
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/print/country/countrypdf_no.pdf

I assume all ambassadors can read although I do not know if it is a requirement of the job.

Then give him an exam a week later before you decide send him back.

we are quite happy with Rufus Gifford as ambassador to Denmark

He is gay, a watersportsman and he is a Federal Club Member of the Human Rights Campaign and a Partner in Conservation for the World Wildlife Fund.

Seems like a real good choice for Denmark

So i looked up the Dutch, British and Norwegian ambassadors to the United States, it turns out those jobs were not given as gifts to millionairs. Each of those gentleman has education and experience that make him well suited to the job.

Let's hope the US emabassdidor has a good staff otherwise he mght be the richest dumbest guy in the room.

Ohh you got it all wrong, Texas is actually a part of Norway, we or well the Norwegian Viking Leif Erikson did discover America around AD 1000 over 500 years before Columbus but there was just no reason to keep it, much better back in Norway Wink

Espen,

Thanks for the post. My principal problem is not incompetence of the current or past administrations, my sadness is that I, who know for a fact that the capital of Norway is Reykjavik, am not the newly appointed ambassador to Norway!

My policy would be that GMC motorhomes got shipped to Norway free in the diplomatic pouch. Along with cheap petrol to run them. A diplomatic tanker!

With all my unbounded wealth, I failed to realize that just a small contribution to both political parties, just to hedge my bets, would have assured my elevation to that political plum position.

I have looked around and found my wealth, after all, is bounded to a very great extent. I must say that I am proud of Merry Olde England and her Foreign Office highly qualified career diplomats, but note "career diplomats" like Lord Mountbatten who was appointed last Viceroy of India. Yes, a viceregal position, but have things changed that much in the UK? Note also 1942 ambassador to US, Lord Halifax. Alas, politics are our common enemy and common salvation. Note politics in some totalitarian regimes where just what was written on this subject so far would assure a 9mm headache. I celebrate being able to post what we like, with no fear except of Mr. Erf. Et al.

Best,

I will forward your post to Mr Obama and recommend you for the position as the new ambassador in Norway, your skills about our country and not at least our needs are really spot on.

And here in Norway you can still keep your pride high of Merry olde England as we have close connections to the wet little island through our King Harald V who is the second cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.

However so do I think it will be hard for you to become a career diplomat here if you are not willing to use the back door and marry on of our royals..

And we are of course civilzed here, no worries about a 9mm headache, however so is it very common to get a 96% headache due our home made liquor quite simular to your moonshine but stronger.

And please give use a heads up upon your arrival, we will take our flags with us and welcome you on the dock when your tanker arrives Smile

Maybe it was just a little mistake on the part of the selection committee -- after all, in the bio for George Tsunis -- his wife's name is Olga --

Or -- Maybe the committee was disoriented after seeing the Norwegian curling team outfits --
