Hi again,

Second post, still thinking about upgrading my current camping setup to
a GMC MH. Answering some earlier questions, I'm not near retirement, I
am near Buffalo,NY. 3 kids from 6-11 years old, other vehicles include a
1997 GMC diesel suburban and a 56 chevy I did a frame off restoration on
for cruising around in the summer with the family.

I have to say though, that this email format is really overwhelming. And
when good info comes to light, how do you search for it? Seems
cumbersome and likely to have the same questions asked over and over
again. Is there a searchable online version of this? Like a bulletin
board?

Anyone ever looked at www.chevytalk.com? That site takes way more posts
every day and the posts are organized by thread. So if I don't want to
follow the discussion about how to obtain accurate exterior dimensions
of the coach, I don't have to scroll through them in order to get to the
post below. I just don't click on that thread.

I'm not sure I can handle all these emails! LOL! I have it set up in
digest format, but I'm still getting several a day.

Why, yes there is. I'm new here too, and the forum is a much better format.

Frankly, I don't see how the email group keeps track of anything long-term, either. I do both email and the forum, but email is used just to keep my eye on what's going by currently. We do have some dedicated archivists who build/maintain supporting websites that group more by topic.

There IS a google group "copy" of the whole thing but I seldom use it except to deep-search.

I find browser-based bookmarklets that search our 4 major online resources simultaneously to be the best for me. More on that here:

RC,

It's simple!

I get all the emails when I download them to Microsoft Outlook. I sort them by Subject and Outlook puts them together in a Group by
time received. if the subject interests me click on the messages listed under the Group if not I delete the whole Group.

After reading the message if I find it's something that I want to keep I put it in a folder under the GMC. I have the GMC divided
into lots of folders such as Suspension under which there is Front / Rear under Front there is Torsion Bars, Control Arms, Ball
Joints, Hubs, Knuckles, etc. The same goes for other stuff.

This is the way I filed my emails from Hamilton Standard when I was working so it's second nature.

You have a system, Rob, and -in my book- NOTHING is more powerful than a system (well, with the possible exception of batch processing).

As for me, I've been involved in search engines for 20 years now (long before Google was a twinkle in Sergey's eye) and I tend to think in terms of keywords and tag clouds. So I need to mentally catalog those as they stream by, hence the attention to the email stream.

I also have some expertise in developing large, static websites --often pulled from document troves. Keep that in mind if you'd like to release your collection as a website one day. Should be do-able.

Todd, assuming you switch to forum view, there was a recent thread by another new member that would interest you. It's in the sandbox, which is NOT distributed to the email group.

RC,

There is a problem with my system in that it requires I remember what I've filed in the folders - somewhat. As the years progress
that system is starting to break down! ;-)
