Hi all,
I finally posted the pics of the Rockwell install. I noted some quality escapes as you will see. Sorry I did not take any pics of the gaskets installed on the intake prior to installation! For sure that was one of the more important steps to highlight being the concerns with the gaskets slipping. Anyway if you properly glue the gaskets on with 3M 08001 and install 3/8" x 2" bolts (heads cut off) on each end you should have no issues with the gaskets slipping. Oh, and I used Dick Patterson's gaskets with block-off plates.

Looks good! Thank you for the photos -- great reference.
-How soon after changing will you do an oil change?
-Will the new heater hose adapter for the intake manifold have a restrictor?
-did the AC compressor bracket bolt on OK?

Awesome pics, Jon. Very helpful. Thanks for being so specific on the sealers used and the problem areas. Most of us would have a good guess at what "gorilla snot" is, but it is helpful that you listed it by it's proper name, 3M 08001. This is what this forum is all about.

Gorrilla Snot is also known as 'Yellow Peril" here in the Pacific
Northwest. If you get it on your hands, you will wear it off or remove the
outer layer of skin to remove it. Wear gloves. It is the best stuff for
this application. I also like Yamabond #4 for similar applications and it
is silver colored when cured.

Yes, unless they changed the bolt hole you will have to modify your A-6 A/C
bracket to mount the top bolt to the new manifold. It's off by half a bolt
hole. This may have been corrected if the manifold is V.2. or V.3. I cut the
tab off of my bracket and then welded a new piece on. I'll send you a pic
offline.

Hi Dennis,
I will change the oil again soon. I have not driven her yet do to the coolant leak at the heater hose connection. As i mentioned on one of the pictures I posted I had to order another adapter. So to answer your question I am still using the original fitting with the restrictor and new adaptor does not have a restrictor, just adding an adaptor to reduce it down to 1/2 in. Regarding the AC Compressor, it bolted up just fine, no issues to report there.

Yes,
I would get that interior of the block spanking clean and then apply the
Glyptal red insulating varnish - ads the return of oil to the pan as the
surface will almost be like glass. I would think it may also help reduce
the amount of gunk build up.
But, there are those in here that know much more then I do - hopefully they
will jump in.

That is an excellant idea, but Glyptal is only possible on a block
that has cleaned and scrubbed before final assembly. You cannot get
the valley area clean enough when R&Ring the manifold for the stuff to
stick. Besides that you also need to clean up the oil drain back
holes and I would not be grinding on an motor and contaminate it.
Grinding residue is death on bearings.

-- when I removed my intake I was worried about how much carbon from the turkey tray may have fallen into the oil gallies as well as how much (if any) anti-freeze coolant may have entered -- so I decided to do a couple of quick oil changes afterwards.

As long as gravity is still a law, and as long as the oil pickup tube is staying submerged in oil, I see only downside to Gyptol in a low RPM engine. Only would conisider it on a sanitary clean preped engine block on a stand, but not in motorhome installation. Reminds me of a 70s Ford conversion van my friend had that rusted out EVEN sooner than most and was dealer rustproofed with a fake Ziebart type material. We opened the doors to find sheets and clumps of dryed crusty material fallen off laying in the bottom of the doors and panels. It had blocked all the drain holes and was holding water and more dirt. The rust was only relieving the clog.
