Subject: MOVING SIDE BATH
Ok,after returning from Goshen, I am having this urge
to move the side bath forward 20" so i can have twin beds
in our 77 kingsley. I do like challenges, any insurmountable
ones that I need to know about? I'm going all electric with
a under the counter 110vac fridge( where the oven/ stove was)
so the fridge won't be a problem.
I'm thinking out loud, nothing on paper yet. I'm only concerned
about the toilet dump.Give me your thoughts, thanks.

Larry,

How did you come up with 20"?

What size do you intend to make the beds?

Rob M.

If you're tackling that big of a job, what about splitting up the bath and
putting in a separate shower so you can have a dry bath???

Also, not sure how tall you are, but I'd make the bed 76" long.

Larry,

I've been having the same urge. One thought has been to use a marine toilet with built in macerator.

Glenn,

Why?

In a boat the macerator grinds up he poop before it is jettisoned into the water. In a GMC all you would be doing is grinding it up
before it goes into the holding tank. You still need a macerator to pump it out.

Rob M.

Ray,

I have two Avion's with dry baths and the size of the shower you wind up with is way small in comparison to a wet bath.

For the record the beds in a Royale are 74" long, in an Avion they're 75" long, and in an Edgemont they're 77" long. I can't
remember the widths off the top of my head; however, IIRC the Edgemont has the widest.

Rob M.

AND, a macerating marine head such as older Raritans
uses a HUGE amount of water for each flush! "Modern"
heads such as a VacuFlush that use little water require
a huge amount of space. Any RV toilet with which I am
familiar doesn't require ANY water from another source!

G'day,

As a follow up I suggest that anyone considering doing this take a look at the Avion brochure on Bdub's website:

http://www.bdub.net/publications/Avion2/avion-int-261.htm

Note the "dresser" in the middle, a VERY handy feature; especially since it has the pull out table in the top!

Rob

Hi All:

We have a 26ft Royale with Rear Bath. The water tank is under the couch so
that the toilet is very far to the rear of the coach. We were draging our
bottom on the crown of the road. We (and Nick and Jim @ Applied GMC) moved
the tanks (2) forward and installed a marine head with a built-in mascerator
to pump the stuff forward into the black tank. There is a second mascerator
to discharge the effluent. Mary just loves this system since there is no
more plastic stink pot and it flushes "just like a real toilet" Not cheap
but really nice!

Larry,
When you were at the Goshen rally did you attend the session on interior remodeling? If so you heard about the waterless toilets http://www.sun-mar.com/ to me this sounds like an excellent alternative.

Based on what I see at the Sun-Mar site adding the RV model would mean
taking up space. At least, it looks a bit larger than one would want in a
GMC.

Just wondering.

As to moving the bath module forward in a standard GMC, the only issue is
replumbing. You'd gain some storage space since the sink wouldn't be over
the wheel well.

Byron,

In Avions and Royales with rear twins and side dry baths the sink is still over the wheel well.

Rob,

If moving the bath module forward meant I could no longer locate the head above the tank the pump would allow connection with a 1" hose.
