Greetings from Southern California !!
I volunteered to help a friend install a second AC unit in his 1978 Kingsley.
Am i going to be lucky enough to find it pre-wired ??
50 amp shore power will drive both - yes ??
I don’t have the opportunity to visit the coach immediately - just beginning to gauge the work effort…
Thanks !!!!

Probably. My 1977 Royale only has one a/c, but when I was replacing a vent exhaust fan, I found a 12-2 w/g Romex cable fed to the edge of the vent for another a/c. Mine being fitted out from Coachman with only 1 a/c, I have a 30 amp service. So I think that the extra a/c cable may have been installed at the GMC assembly line and not at Coachman.
So chances are good you have the extra cable, but you probably need to open the AC panel and make up the cable to a breaker. My cable is in the breaker box with wire nuts on it, not connected to any breaker. 50 amp service will run two a/cs, especially the newer ones.

Greg, I added the second AC to my 78 Royale. I was happy to find the wiring at the vent. Who knows what may have been changed after nearly 50 years, but I believe Coachman set up the 30 amp shore line to only support one generator but the Onan is wired to support both generators. Rather than upgrade to 50 amp service, I just added a separate 110v 20-amp shore line to supprot the second AC. That allows me to run the second AC off my little Honda 2000 generator. The second AC is a smaller Coleman 11,000 BTU energy saver model. I can run it off the Honda, the Onan, or campground shore power.

Just be sure that the Air Cond breakers are positioned in tbe box so that they are not on the same leg. One should be on L1 and the other on L2, with remaining loads also split as evenly as possible on remaining breakers. .

I had to run wires to the rear vent on my 77 kingsley.
Also I had to square the round corners and add aluminum Chanels to frame the opening.
1977 Kingsley 455 as stock as it gets except lots of Ragusa parts

Steve, I would say that you are correct. My Royale has a 50 amp receptacle from the Onan. I use an adapter to plug the coach's panel into the generator receptacle when I want to use it. It would be pretty easy to convert the panel into a 50 amp from what I have seen. I think I read somewhere that all the Onan receptacles in the GMC's are 50 amp, but I may have that wrong.
That's a pretty good idea to run a separate line for the extra A/C. That gives you the option to use a generator or plug both the 30 and 20 amp lines into a power pedestal.
