Having things rechromed is one of those large numbers on a restoration invoice. The "showchrome" you talk about is today the only way to go. Used to be someyhing inbetwwen but theEPA rules took all those folks. Cheap chrome will not hold up in our application. It must be 3 process or its a waste and today most of it is cheap. Wholesale, if there is such a thing in such a saught after category, is @ $500 a half bumper for a quality job. And that will not happen in 30 days! Oh no, it will be 90 days and more! Time is money, labor costs and to have them pay attention and have a quality outcome takes more. There is no shortcut to quality, don't get caught up in that dead heat many seem to run with trying to spend less and less money expecting the aame quality. Chrome for sure but in most everything else as well its true with no way around it "you get what you pay for", I like to say a great deal is a fair deal, at the least it was not done with "how many corners can I cut and not screw this up" will not be considereb in the outcome.

Here's an update on rechroming my bumpers: Contacted several rechromers in PA and OH. Paul's Chrome Plating and DG Custom Chrome both produce a "show chrome" finish that was quoted between $3000-$4800 for both bumpers. Neither produce a "decorative" finish. I did contact a couple of rechromers in Toledo, OH and chose one that produces the "decorative" chrome finish using a triple plating process of nickel, nickel, chrome. His price was significantly less than the "show chrome" vendors. The shop has been in business for 30 years and chromed parts for Ford. Should have my bumpers back in a month -- stay tuned. I'll let you know how they turned out!
