Has anyone found a suitable replacement license plate light assembly or are you refurbishing the existing hardware? I would appreciate any input, thoughts and comments from the group.

See if there are people that have one for reasonable price.
I know our price on most used parts tend to be pricy.
|
JimK -- it's only pricey because you have to pay people to take it apart and ship it. Lots of guys can do it cheaper because they are "paying" themselves the labor or just paying the part forward when they are parting out a GMC. Most people would be appalled at how little they value their own time if they took the time to figure it out.
We understand and appreciate the difference and the time you and your guys put in.

Being in business is pricey. Nobody expects you to run a charity, Jim.

Jim,
I spoke with Nick last week and he said he had used light assemblies in inventory. Just wondering if there were any alternatives to the the original GMC design.

My guess - if JimK doesn't have something new on the shelf then it doesn't exist as new.

I took the plastic base plate to a guy who has waterjet cutting and had him cut a new base plate out of 1/8" aluminum--he only charged me $10. I then bought a led light assembly from Peterson Model: V388C, painted one long edge of the light assembly black (so it wouldn't blind the guy behind me). It works and looks great. No more leaks either!
Thanks,

We are gong to have a kit consisting of a plate and light that should go
for $30.
I started on one, then got side tracked.
Being a slow mover, it is hard to have 30-50 made up and sit here.
It is hard to compete with some people that tool up on some select items
and no mark up and market them at almost half price.
Our customer base is over 4,000 so we know we are helping few, plus we are
constantly on the phone answering technical questions. Nick, myself and or
technicians .
No other GMC organization can match or ability to help.
Our toll free line costs us easily 500-800 monthly.
It is refreshing to know that there are people that realize why our prices
are higher than a standard parts store.

If Jim K. has originals that are not rusted out that's great! I use one of those half round tag light fixtures from a truck bumper , cut a panel shaped like the original lights assembly, cut a hole into it for the light to snap into and secure and seal the plate in place. You can't see it and if you did a clean job it looks good..
Hope this helps,

Put me up on they list Jim, I will sell my old one for $ 35 just to cover the cost of a new one.. Dirt cheap for a original piece.

Jim B shows what a little ingenuity can do to make a workable alternative. However, when you figure out the time involved, you can understand why they have to charge for their services.
It pays to be handy, and if you enjoy fabricating parts yourself, you can save some money. If not, it's great to know that both of the Jims are willing to offer work-a rounds.
