So, I just finished redoing my Vacuum booster and Master cylinder. One of the things that has been suggested is that we need to cover the MC so that water cannot drip on the MC during a rain storm or when driving in the rain. It has been suggested that we use aluminum foil to cover it. So I went looking for aluminum foil and when I couldn't find any, my wife said to look above the refrigerator. When I opened the door the first thing I saw was a 4" X 8" aluminum loaf pan...that we use when baking meat loaf. Guess what??? It is the perfect size. Here are some pics of the install.

Works for me, hope this works for someone else.

Nice, but is this a common problem? I've driven all sorts of vehicles in all sorts of weather, including some that had the master cylinder in some really exposed places like under the floor, and never had a problem with water getting in the system.

Larry, I had the same problem when I bought mine.
I tried cleaning it up but was not satisfied and I was having trouble with my
brakes,so I replaced the master cyl. and found later that after painting it it started
rusting up again.  So I went looking for a cure and found one at Lowes, it was a
1/4 inch of weather stripping that I installed down both sides and across the top
on both sides.  After closing the lid there is a tight fit and the water just runs out the
bottom, no more rusty cyl.. and it comes in white

Larry,

Brilliant!

I hereby declare this item to be officially referred to as the L&L GMC M/C Protector. I would suggest you file a patent application
before someone tries to copy the idea! ;-D

Since we have official part numbers and documentation for this-

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/miscellaneous-bryant-stuff/p52792-official-part.html

and this-

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showfull.php?photo=52792

Shouldn't this new master cylinder cover have an official GM part number as well?

Common ordinary 1/2 gallon milk or juice plastic carton cut properly fits extremely well over the MC.
This idea is not original to me. I copied it from another GMC I saw at an International Rally.

Here's one more MC cover idea: Cut the bottom off of an empty 1 gallon oil
jug. The "ears" which fit behind the cover bales ensure that it can't come
off once the hatch cover is closed to prevent the cover from sliding
forward. (There are identical ears on the other side,by the way.):

If the issue is rust, I just clearcoat mine and that seems to work.

Ken,

I like the L&L M/C Cover better; it's nice and shiny which makes it look like a custom part! ;-)
