I was doing a search and I did not find the info I was looking for on 73 GMCs rear spindle and hub recall.

Would I be able to drive the 73 GMC across country if it has the older/bad spindles and hubs still on it?

I'm out east and the 73 GMC I'm looking to purchase is in CA.
I plan to fly out there and drive it back.

Who does the repair – If this GMc needs it?

How long does it take?

Is there any cost with it being a “recall”?

Thanks, Tony

Still hoping and more importantly praying to be able to build a garage.

Tony:

Check this link and read down till you find the recall.
http://gmcmotorhome.info/rear.html

If the hub (that centres the wheel has 8 notches rather than 4, the recall has already been done or is not applicable.

Best regards

Hi Tony:

When I was a Ford dealer I was always told that the law stated that recalls are valid as long as the vehicle exists. (Even in a recycling yard)

A GM dealer will probably not have easy access to the update parts through its regular parts sources that the delay would be quite unacceptable to you and you would want to wait till you got the coach home.

After 40 years however. It the recall has not been done so far and the coach is still rolling, I would imagine that your trip home would be fine if the bearings have been serviced recently and properly.

But!!! That's speculation, right

Contact us and I will get it taken care of.
In the past when the serial number was searched, most came up as having
been updated.
Dealers are very good at turning in claims even when work was not done.
When this happens, I end up needing help from the higher up people at GM.
When I worked for Ford Motor Co, some of our dealers were always pulling
this trick as it did not count against their warranty claim statistic.
Several times I would just question it, but let it go.
Most wonder if your parts supplier can help you on this?
Even your GM dealer cannot be bothered.
