These photos from the gmcmh gallery were posted by mwmwall back in 2007. I
have coveted this set-up since the day I saw it and want to copy it in my
1976 Eleganza II ("Eugene").

Because my two "kids" (13 y.o. boy and 15 y.o. daughter) always want to
bring friends along on our adventures, more sleeping space is a big goal
for me. This set up creates the potential for 5 "heads on beds" (more if I
stacked them sideways :-)

It looks like they kept the upper bunk from the DAVO and put a jackknife
sofa in front of it.

What I don't understand is what they mean by "*jackknife bed pulled out and
rolled out*" and rolled out to meet the dinette (second image above)

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/3089/89_p981.jpg

versus "*jackknife bed open but left against the wall*") (first image above)

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/3089/89_p982.jpg

If the frame of the jackknife is secured, how can it "roll out"? Has
anyone copied this arrangement? Any tips?

Alternatively, does anybody know who mwmwall is so I can contact him/her
directly about what they did here?

Thanks in advance to all.

Yes thats way cool
I have the same arrangement, the jack knife sofa and the dinete except mine has the gap.
I would also love to close the gap, I think one would have to modify the frame to move close to the dinette, I expect by pulling a lock pin ow two.

I would be very interested in how he did it

Do you also have the upper bunk with the jackknife sofa? Even if I don't
"close the gap" to the dinette I would like to have both bunk and sofa and
am looking for any tips on making that work.

No I just have the Jackknife.
I don't know how they could co-exist since the upper bunk becomes the back of the lower.

If you have the bunks, I'd think about making a panel that fills the gap between the couch and the dinette.
Maybe it could fold down in front of the sofa?

When I replaced my dinette with a sofa I mounted the new sofa on sliders out of an old Ford van. This allows me to get it close to the wall whether it is a couch or flipped out into a bed.

Shirley,

here are some pix of an easy to make couch that opens into a true queen size bed. If you still have the dinette the width of the open sofa can be tailored to close the gap.

any pictures of the sliders?
What keeps the couch from sliding all over the place?

Hi Shirley!
I have that coach with the couch.
I'd offer pictures of the mechanism, but there is a cover with a good bit of snow in the way.
It looks like a jack knife sofa, but those framed cushions ride on what I believe is a GM van power sofa rail set. There is a switch that moves the whole sofa forward, and another that reclines the back. The Davo upper bunk is behind the jack knife sofa back. It makes the aisle narrower, but we have gotten used to it.
Both the dinette and sofa are raised about 4 inches and have big drawers underneath.

Even though it is an Ultravan we have a couch like what Glenn (aka Zhagrieb) has.

The big difference is that it has no hinges and it has draws under the couch.

The coach box frame with draws has a top on it made out of plywood and above that you have a seat frame with two front legs.

When you pull the seat frame out as far as it will go, the back edge of it will rest on the top of front edge of the box frame with draws. Then you take the back cushion and lay it on top the the box frame to complete the bed.

Marie and I are blessed to have had a 2nd chance to buy our farm.
Still hoping and more importantly praying to be able to build a garage.
Our 1970 Ultravan #520 has an Olds Toronado 455 in back.

Thank you Russ! This helps a lot! Did you do this installation or did you
buy the coach with it already in place?
