The actual auction is a very nice thing to see! The parking lot for the spectators is large enough that they have shuttle busses to bring you to the main venues.

When I see what prices are bid on some of these cars, I feel sick of the ones that we sold as used cars back in the day!

George, my plan is to tour that place before or during the auction. Will need to get with someone that has been there before I do. Will keep you in mind.
Our daughter has moved up to Payson, just a hop or two from Scottsdale, so I have a bed.

I used to display our stuff at the Kruse Auction in Auburn Indiana. Went up 5-6 times and got to know the process pretty well. When things were slow in the booth, I'd go watch the action.

Lots and lots of slick dealing and outright misrepresentation, not to mention fake and shill bidding. I was watching a 68 Chrysler NY station wagon go on the block. It showed 10K on the odometer and it was clearly 110K. They said it was a 10K original car and then went on to describe the motor was a 440 when it was a 318. There weren't many folks at the auction and the floor guy kept looking past me and yelling YEPP! Problem was there was no one behind me. I later found out it is legal for the auction house to run up a bit TO THE RESERVE by fake bidding.

Several times, I'd see dealers collude to drive up the price of a car. Dealer 1 would have a car worth 10K. Dealer 2 would buy it for 15K. Next auction Dealer 3 would buy it for 20. Next auction Dealer 1 would buy it back for 25. The next auction Dealer 1 would list the car as having recently sold for 25 with a reserve of 25. I saw that 68 wagon done this way. It 'sold at Kruse for 15, was at Hershey later that year, and the next year was owned by the original guy out of Arizona and offered as being recently sold for 20K.

Sold a English Wheel to a guy who had just bought a 58 Chevy wagon with an "ORIGINAL 409ci engine" I saw the sheet in the window when I took the wheel over to the guy's trailer. Only problem is that the 409 was not out in 58. The engine would have been a 348. The customer was ignorant and had more money than brains as evidenced by him walking up and asking for the most expensive machine I had. I tried to talk him into a machine that was better suited to his needs and cost less but he only wanted the most expensive. Obviously, I sold it to him. Shocked Laughing

It's easy to get ripped new ones at auctions. Seeing something shiny doesn't mean it's right or even runs and drives well.

That said, it's good entertainment on TV or in person but imo, there are very, very few 'deals'.

Long before I joined this cult and knew anything about GMCs, there was this really, really nice GMC 23' at Kruse all slicked up....probably 2006 or so. Didn't see it sell but it was really impressive looking.

Wednesday, Fox Sports 2 6-8 pm central
Fox Buisness 8-10 pm central

We have a local company that does auctions on classic and hot rods only. It is quite a car show. I grab a grandson or two and we head to the auction early. We look the cars over real good, visit with friends, then watch a few go through the aution. Don't care what they sell for, we are there to look and grab pictures. A great way to introduce youngsters into car loving hobby. There is a bonding thing there for us too. Just a high dollar car show and that is how I view Barrett Jackson. We have 4 grandsons living within an hour of Scottsdale and hope to take each one before they completely grow up.
I was surprised last night at some prices on the early cars, they were expensive, usually reserved for weekend time. Also, they ran a pair of 58 Impalla hard tops through. Sweet modernized rides for the first year Impalla. I love "modern" under hood and all of running gear, just like our GMC, thanks to Applied GMC.
Life is good,
Dan
