Most of us have two 14" pieces of iron that we slide into the bogies to assist in lifting the rear. I use two sections of leaf spring 1/4 X 2 1/2" X 14" that I slide in to keep from having to lift the coach so high to get the wheels off of the ground.
Ever forget to remove them after doing a job of some kind on the rears? I have, and darn near ruined a tire when the piece of steel slid in contact with the sidewall. The problem is partly, that the spring material is the same color as everything else down there. At one of the past rally's, I observed Dave Lenzi working on another persons coach, and noted that his were painted a bright yellow. Dave had also forgotten once to remove the bar, and nearly ruined a tire, so painted his yellow to separate the bar from the bogie and surrounding mechanicals. So, I took his idea and since I'm from Wisconsin, the deer hunting capitol of the USA (my opinion), I thought blaze orange would do. Blaze Orange surely separates this assist spring from everything else in there and is a visual reminder to remove when done with the job. Here are a few pics to illustrate my point.
